Slab Formwork

Slab formwork from our own lines: telescopic props, 4-way heads, pressed steel primary beams, steel-timber secondary beams and 18 mm birch plywood. Every part is made to be used again and again.

Built to your size

Prop height, beam lengths and grid follow your slab.

Primary beams come in 1.8, 2.4 and 3 m. Steel-timber secondary beams come in 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.4 m. Prop lengths and spacing are set by your slab thickness and floor height.

A slab bay, ready for concrete

Props carry primary beams, primary beams carry secondary beams, and the plywood goes on top. The model leaves part of the plywood off so you can see the beams.

Telescopic props

The inner tube slides out of the outer tube and is pinned through one of its holes. The nut on the threaded collar then screws up for the last few millimetres.

03 / 08

Tripods

A folding tripod holds each prop upright while the bay is being set. It comes off once the beams are in.

04 / 08

4-way heads

The head on top of each prop is a plate with 4 upstands. One beam sits between them, or two beams lapped side by side. U heads are also available.

05 / 08

Primary beams

The primary beam is pressed steel with triangular openings in the web, which take out weight and keep the strength. A timber insert in the top lets it be nailed to.

  • Lengths: 1.8, 2.4 and 3 m
  • Moment: 5 kN.m
  • Shear: 7.5 kN
  • Flexural rigidity: 210 kNm²
  • Weight: 3.0 kg/m

06 / 08

Steel-timber secondary beams

Timber inside a 2 mm pre-galvanised steel cover, 70 mm high by 50 mm wide. The cover protects the timber, so a beam lasts up to 250 uses. We make 2,00,000 m of it a month.

  • Lengths: 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.4 m
  • Moment: 2 kN.m
  • Shear: 5 kN
  • Flexural rigidity: 54 kNm²
  • Weight: 4.4 kg/m

Birch plywood

The soffit is 18 mm film-faced birch plywood. It is the face the concrete is cast against.
