A flare derrick, as we build it

Height, legs and risers are set by the project design; this model is one example. What we show is how the repeating bolted sections are made, marked and proven.

Legs on a batter

Four tubular legs, stepped down in section with height, supplied inside the 12 m shipping limit and joined by bolted splices.

Bracing that lands on nodes

X-bracing on all 4 faces with a ring beam at every node, which is what lets the tower go up in bolt-up lifts with limited craneage.

Four foundations

Each leg lands on a flared base with gusset ribs and anchor bolts. Four foundations for the whole tower, against the plot a guyed stack needs.

Risers free to expand

The risers run inside the structure rather than holding it up, so gas temperature stops being a structural constraint.

Maintenance platforms at every level that needs one, and a caged ladder the full height.

Choosing a support structure

Four ways to hold a flare up. The derrick earns its place on tight plots, hot gas and multi-flare sites.

01 Self-supported

One foundation, small plot, no maintenance.

Practical up to roughly 70–100 m.

02 Guyed

Lightest and cheapest.

Needs a large plot; ruled out above about 250 °C gas.

03 Derrick

Three or four leg foundations.

Riser free to expand; one derrick can carry several.

04 Demountable derrick

Winches and guide rails lower any one flare to grade.

Maintenance while the others keep running.
